Belgium: one vehicle, two directions

Posted by Nicholas Alan Clayton

Two Belgian artists, one Wallon the other Flemish created a piece of art that sybolizes their county’s absurd predicament. Faced with the Flemish-speaking North and the French-speaking South in a political deadlock, the two sides find themselves driving away from each other while still connected. And so, the artists fabricated a tandem bicycle, but rather than two riders pedaling in the same direction, they made it such that the riders face away from each other and essentially turn the bike into a tug-of-war machine. They then adorned the contraption with various things representing their country and regions.
