Military confrontation “not in the interests of Georiga, nor of Russia” – Saakashvili
It is possible that this crisis will end without further bloodshed.
After a temporary cease-fire, the South Ossetians and Georgian representatives have met. Apparently both sides gave contradictory casualty numbers and mutually accused the other of starting the hostilities.
But, in the end, Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili announced his hopes that the fighting would not grow into all out war between Georgia and Russia saying such a confrontation would not be “in the interests of Georgia, nor those of Russia.”
