Russian aircraft drop two bombs on Georgian capital

Posted by Nicholas Alan Clayton

Russian media are reporting two airstrikes on a suburb of the Georgian capital of Tblisi after an attempted Georgian incursion into the Tskhinvali capital of the break-away republic South Ossetia.

Around 10 a.m. Friday, Georgia said Russian military aircraft violated Georgian airspace and dropped two bombs on Kareli, a part of Georgia that is about 50 miles northwest of the capital, Tblisi, and is not in the conflict zone, said Shota Utiashvili, spokesman for the Georgian Ministry of Interior.

Full (slightly biased) CNN story.

Russia has also sent an armored coloumn into Tskhinvali in response to a reported 2,000 strong Georgian force attempting to take the city by force over night.

I will try to report any new information out of the Russian and American media as soon as I get it.
