Three Kings news round-up
– Columnist Christopher Hitchens makes the case that recent Turkish maneuverings make them ineligible to become an EU member, ever.
My take: points well made, but I’m not sure much has changed. I’m still not sold on Turkey becoming an EU member anytime soon, but I also feel commentators like Hitchens are often able to find very logical arguments to back up their general islamophobia.
– NY Times columnist Thomas Freidman makes the case that had the United States not fallen behind in education and had it closed the racial achievement gap, it would be a few trillion dollars richer today.
– The World Bank named Georgia as the worlds 15th most business-friendly country, while Russia ranked in at 120th out of 181 countries surveyed.
– Apparently Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze publicly questioned the intelligence of Dmitri Rogozin, Russia’s representative to NATO. Rogozin in turn criticized Vashadze’s “moral and professional faculties” Full article in Russian here.
